How to Get a Refund from Apple

This is a follow up post to my Nov. 14 post titled "How to Disable In-app Purchases on iPod, iPad, etc."  In my original post I stated that we were able to get a one-time refund from Apple for our son's accidental in-app purchases that totaled near $200.  Below I will include how we contacted Apple and how we got a refund.

DISCLAIMER: This is how we got a refund from Apple based on our particular circumstances.  I cannot guarantee you will receive a refund from Apple.

First, good luck calling Apple.  Each call my husband made was a recording that told us to go online and fill out the required forms.  I recommend just starting out online.

Within iTunes, click on Store and click on View My Account
Enter your account information
Scroll down and click "See All" under Purchase History
Copy the individual order numbers for the unwanted purchases.  Reference these numbers when submitting a claim through iTunes Support (Click HERE to go to iTunes Support)

Select product and model from the Product Selection tab.
Select  iTunes Store, App Store or iBookstore under "Select a support category" and click Continue

Under Issue Description, select iTunes Store account billing and fill in the required information.  You should be able to finish your request for a refund from here.

We were truthful in entering our reason for a refund.  My husband wrote under Details:
My 7 year old son made several unauthorized purchases for the DragonVale app.  Apparently, my iPod stopped requiring a password for purchasing materials through the App Store.  Historically, each purchase or update required a new typed-in password, but apparently that was not the case yesterday evening and this morning.

Apple responded and told us we would receive a one-time refund.  I hope this make sense, and more importantly, I hope this helps.  It is what worked for us.  Good luck to you!

Thank you so much, I don't follow your blog but I found you when I searched on Google about DragonVale in app purchases. We are following your steps for a refund. Thanks again for posting this.
